Greek National Day Celebration | Detroit
The Consulate General of Greece in Chicago proudly joined the celebration for the Greek National Day in Detroit, on a special evening celebrating our shared heritage and the enduring bonds of Hellenism.
We warmly thank His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Detroit - Youth and Young Adult Ministries, as well as the Detroit Greek Independence Day Parade and the Hellenic Associations, for the invitation and gracious hospitality.
It was a meaningful opportunity to connect with the vibrant Greek-American community and reflect on the values of freedom, unity and identity that continue to guide us.

Flag Raising Ceremony Ypsilanti, MI
Raising Flag Ceremony in Ypsilanti on March 27th, 2026.
The Consulate General of Greece in Chicago had the honor of participating today in the Greek National Day commemoration in Ypsilanti, including a wreath-laying ceremony in tribute to the heroes of 1821.The ceremony took place at the statue of Demetrios Ypsilantis, a distinguished leader of the Greek War of Independence, serving as a poignant reminder of his legacy and the enduring bonds between Greece and the United States. Notably, the city of Ypsilanti itself was named in his honor, underscoring his lasting historical significance.

The Mayor of Ypsilanti, Nicole Brown, the President-elect of Eastern Michigan University Dr. Brendan Kelly, and Professor Artemis Leontis, Head of the C. P. Cavafy Professorship in Modern Greek and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan, joined the commemoration.
We extend our sincere thanks to the organizers, local authorities, and the Greek-American community for their warm hospitality and their continued dedication to preserving our Hellenic heritage.
